As of 8:30 pm today, there were 117 prisoners released under the general amnesty proposed by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan then approved by parliament this week on occasion of the 20th anniversary of Armenia’s independence. This news was conveyed by Arsen Babayan, head of the public relations office at the justice ministry’s penal institutions department.
Prominent among those imprisoned was Nikol Pashinyan, who was also released around 8:20 pm. Released about an hour before that was Ara Hovhannisyan.
The number of those released per penitentiary thus far are as follows:
Nubarashen: 27
Erebuni: 5
Vardashen: 23
Hospital for Detainees: 14
Erevan Kentron (“Center”): 0
Artik: 6
Vanadzor: 5
Sevan: 15
Hrazdan: 0
Abovyan: 1
Goris: 11
Kosh: 10
The process of releasing other prisoners under the amnesty continues.
