Armenian National Congress (HAK) leader Levon Ter-Petrossian’s statement “If they want, let them dialogue; if they don’t want, the fault lies with them” is another threat, which is unacceptable for the current authorities, said ruling Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) MP Artak Zakaryan, speaking to journalists in Yerevan today.
“Ter-Petrossian is pushing through the issue of pre-term elections, for which, however, there is no economic, political or public demand,” he said.
Stating that there is a political crisis in Armenia, the HHK MP advised both politicians and journalists, in case of dialogue, to place the emphasis on content and not form.
“And is [the act of] all political entities in Armenia reaching consensus on the Karabakh issue not perhaps dialogue?” asked Zakaryan, who was contradicted by Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun, or ARF-D) MP Artsvik Minasyan, also present at today’s press conference. Minasyan said that they have not reached consensus on the question of territorial concessions.
On the matter of dialogue between HAK and the authorities, Minasyan said that HAK, in the language of chess, called checkmate, which the authorities should not eradicate, but rather, call their own checkmate, “and the main person calling checkmate is [Armenian President] Serzh Sargsyan.”
