The Armenian football team earned the right to participate in the Euro 2012 finals, believes Russian midfielder Roman Shirokov.
“I would like to see Armenia in second place (as a qualifying team). And because of [Armenian goalkeeper] Roman Berezovsky [who played with Shirokova in Russia’s FC Khimiki], but also because it’s a former Soviet republic. Especially since they had a number of excellent matches in this qualifier and scored the most goals. I think that the Armenians deserve to play in Euro 2012,” said Shirokov, reports RIA Novosti.
Recall, on Tuesday, Armenia will play off against Ireland in Dublin in the final round of the Group B qualifying round. If Armenia wins this match, for the first time in its history it will be able to take part in the qualifying play-offs for the right to play in the European Championship finals.
