In the upcoming May parliamentary elections, Armenia’s former foreign affairs minister Vartan Oskanian might be named as the second candidate in the Prosperous Armenia (BHK) party list, reports local daily Haykakan Jamanak (“Armenian Times”).
“I too heard this, but as far as I know there’s no such thing. I will try to confirm it; when I get an answer, I’ll let you know,” said Director of the Oskanian-founded Civilitas Foundation Salpi Ghazarian when asked about the news. The paper reports that it hadn’t received a response from Ghazarian by the time it had to go to print.
Haykakan Jamanak also queried BHK party leader Gagik Tsarukyan’s spokesperson Khachik Galstyan on the matter of Oskanian’s possible inclusion on the party list, who said rather vaguely: “This and other questions of yours are being discussed or have not yet been discussed.”
On the topic of the upcoming elections, Galstyan said only that Gagik Tsarukyan has instructed that 2–3 BHK candidates be nominated for the 41 seats reserved for the majority system in Armenia’s parliament.
