The last witness was examined in court today in the high-profile trial of former RA Traffic Police Chief Margar Ohanyan. Recall, Ohanyan, as well as former battalion commander Stepan Karakhanyan, and traffic police employees Ara Levonyan and Samvel Makhmuryan, is accused of embezzling gasoline that was set aside for traffic police vehicles.
The witness, Nikoghayos Yeghiazaryan, a commander of one of the traffic police units, like other witness who testified before him, said he signed off on more gasoline than he actually received. The witness testified that he did this as instructed by former traffic police battalion commander Stepan Karakhanyan.
Yeghiazaryan said that they were told they would be given tires instead of the rest of the gasoline for which they signed.
The stage of examining all the witnesses over, the court moved to examining the accused. Judge Mkhitar Papoyan turned his attention first to Samvel Makhmuryan, who said he has financial issues and cannot afford to hire an attorney. Furthermore, he asked for time from the court in order to prepare for his testimony.
The judge granted this request and postponed the trial to Feb. 14 at 11:30 am.
