Man Imprisoned for Murdering Wife Terminates Hunger Strike

Yanis Sarkisov, sentenced to 10 years in prison for the murder of his wife, Zaruhi Petrosyan, terminated the hunger strike he began at Nubarashen penitentiary on Feb. 17, head of the public relations division of the RA Ministry of Justice’s Penitentiary Service Gor Ghlechyan told Epress.am.

“At 5:40 pm n Mar. 7, without any comments, Sarkisov terminated the hunger strike. Both during the hunger strike and at this time, he has no health problems,” said Ghlechyan.

According to the justice ministry employee, Sarkisov had gone on a hunger strike hoping to have his case be reviewed.

Recall, during the trial, Sarkisov insisted that Zaruhi killed herself by drinking poison, but the court found this implausible.

Zaruhi Petrosyan, 20, died on Oct. 1, 2010, after ongoing abuse at the hands of Yanis Sarkisov. Zaruhi’s relatives repeatedly said that her mother-in-law was an accessory to the crime. The court, however, did not find sufficient grounds to charge Sarkisov’s mother.
