Youth Protesting Funded Pension in Armenia Disrupted Conference (VIDEO)

Members of the initiative Dem Em ("I am against") tried to disrupt the third annual pension conference today organized by the Pension System Awareness Center in Yerevan's Elite Plaza Business Center.

Members of the initiative learned of the conference by coincidence only moments before it began and rushed to participate; however, organizers didn't allow them to enter the room, explaining that the format does not allow them to participate in the discussion.

Participating in the pension conference today were among others: US Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern, different experts, and RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, who left the building before the arrival of members of the initiative.

The protesting youth, however, succeeded in entering the room, interrupting the presentation of one of the experts, and asked for the right to speak. Organizers, however, said only representatives of international organizations were participating in the conference and the right to speak can be provided only at the end of the conference.

Dem Em members demanded to be allowed to speak during the discussion and not at the end, after which the conference was put on hold and organizers removed the activist youth by force.

While the youth were protesting, conference participants quietly left the room.
