The governments of Russia and Armenia will soon sign an agreement on gathering data on Armenian nationals who are in the Russian Federation for temporary work, reports local daily Haykakan Zhamanak.
According to the Armenian newspaper, the agreement is only a draft, but you can rest assured that it will be signed because the initiative comes from Russia.
"It seems this agreement will supplement or replace the well-known Russian state program Compatriots, which is implemented in our country by the Armenian representation of the Federal Migration Service of Russia. The Compatriots program offers Armenians work and citizenship in Russia, but selected as place of residence are only the outlying settlements of the Russian Federation.
"It's noteworthy that the draft agreement is unilateral and the problem is viewed from Russia's perspective. Used regularly here is the word 'immigration'. Citizens of the Republic of Armenia then won't be emigrating, but immigrating," reports the newspaper.
