The majority of members of the Armenian community in Ukraine are citizens of this country; they are integrated into all public, state, and social sectors, said chair of the Union of Armenians in Ukraine, Party of Regions MP, and entrepreneur Vilen Shatvoryan (pictured, center) at a meeting with UN representatives.
"The Armenian diaspora has always defended the interests of Ukraine and makes a contribution wherever possible," he said, according to AnalitikaUA.net.
Participating in the meeting were UN Special Rapporteur on minority issues Rita Izsak, and human rights officers with the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Graham Fox and Maria Margarita Lema Tomé.
The meeting was held to discuss a wide range of issues relating to human rights, including the rights of national minorities and the Armenian diaspora. This was the first official visit of the UN Special Rapporteur on minority issues to Ukraine, to obtain information on the situation of minorities living in the country.
