Gazprom CEO Failed to Keep His Promise: Gas Price for Armenia Not Reduced (Statement)

Since January 1, 2015, Gazprom Armenia CJSC (subsidiary of the Russian gas company Gazprom) has been paying $190.65 per thousand cubic meters of natural gas purchased at the border, Karen Movsisyan, deputy CEO of Armenia's national gas distribution company, said in response to an inquiry by Union of Informed Citizens NGO. According to the contract, Movsisyan added, gas prices in Armenia depend on the prices in the Orenburg region of Russia.

On Friday, June 12, Union of Informed Citizens issued a statement, recalling that Alexey Miller, Chairman of Gazprom Management Committee, announced in April, 2015 that the price of the Russian gas supplied to Armenia would be reduced to $165 per thousand cubic meters.

“In other words, the statement of the head of Gazprom is not true, and the price of gas supplied to Armenia has not decreased. This means that the Russian Gazprom continues to receive excess profits due to the gas sold to Amenia and RUB/USD exchange rate fluctuations,” the NGO's statement said.
