Zaruhi Postanjyan, “Zharangutyun” (Heritage) opposition faction leader, called on the Armenian people during the ongoing National Assembly session on Monday to unite and initiate civil-disobedience to rebel against and topple Serzh Sargsyan’s plans to perpetuate his rule.
The final text of the draft Constitution will be submitted October 5 to the parliament for a vote by the president-adjunct Specialized Commission on Constitutional Reforms. The constitutional amendments will be put to a referendum later in the year.
“This is an antinational draft; it will push our people further to emigration and poverty. Turns out, it’s not enough for Serzh Sargsyan to remain in power until 2018; he wants to be [in power] eternally. It’s not enough that 1, 5 million people have emigrated because of him. We have to unite and mobilize our forces. We have to show mass disobedience to all branches of government since none of them function properly,” Postanjyan said.
Note, at around midday today the No Front, an alliance created by opponents of the constitutional changes, organized a march towards the RA parliament building urging the Armenian lawmakers to vote against the draft amendments.
