The European Court of Human Rights has given Armenia's Government until May 29 to provide information about hunger-striking Nubarashen convict Hrachya Gevorgyan's health condition, lawyer Tigran Safaryan told Epress.am Saturday.
According to the lawyer, they had filed a motion with the ECHR to take immediate measures for ensuring that Gevorgyan received necessary medical treatment and care since the prison administration has been refusing to transfer the convict to a medical facility or to provide him with the appropriate care he urgently needs. The condition of the seriously ill prisoner, who has been conducting a hunger strike since April 25 and is suffering from a number of diseases, is continuously deteriorating, Safaryan added.
“The European Court has demanded that the Armenian Government provide information about the progress of the writ issued by the penitentiary administration on April 11, according to which, the prisoner was allowed to be transferred to an appropriate medical facility for treatment. The Court has also asked for Gevorgyan's medical history,” the lawyer said. At the moment, he added, they were drawing up a complaint to be lodged with the ECHR.
