Kocharyan to Remain in Custody

Yerevan General Jurisdiction Court rejected the motion to release Armenia’s second president Robert Kocharyan from custody.

On September 12, the trial over the second president and three other high profile former officials resumed. The Court was in deliberations over the presented motion.

Kocharyan is charged for violating the constitutional order and receiving large amounts of bribes.

In the meanwhile, a group of people assembled near the court marched towards Myasnikyan statue to give their respect to the memory of the victims of March 1 crackdowns. Citizens demanding a life sentence for Kocharyan were chanting – “Long live the Republic of Armenia,” “Long live justice,” “Long live the proud citizen of the Republic of Armenia,” “Long live democracy.”
