Asked by a Haykakan Jamanak (“Armenian Times”) reporter for his comments on the “negative position” displayed among Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) circles on the idea of dialogue at the delegation level between the Armenian National Congress (HAK) and the authorities, HAK leader, first president of the Republic of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrossian said:
“The opinion of individuals having zero role in the task of decision making in this case has no significance. Therefore, since [Armenian President] Serzh Sargsyan has no yet expressed his view, saying anything about this is meaningless. It should only be noted that dialogue is necessary not so much for the [Armenian National] Congress as much as for the authorities. If dialogue doesn’t take place, the [Armenian National] Congress loses nothing; rather, perhaps gains from a political point of view. The loser, in first place, will be the authorities. And to a great extent, all of us — that is, the country and the people. We have made our move, the precision of which, contrary to assessments by ‘independent analysts,’ we don’t doubt in the slightest. The rest is not our, but the authorities’ headache. If they want, let them dialogue; if they don’t want, the fault lies with them.”
