Armenian Parliamentary Opposition Parties Make an Offer to Ruling Party

The Heritage Party and the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun) today issued a joint statement, welcoming the position recently declared by parliamentary and extra-parliamentary political parties and groups to organize free and fair elections.

The parties proposed to the parliamentary majority (the Republican Party of Armenia) to make a single amendment to the Election Code — eliminate the majority electoral system, replacing it with proportional representation. The signatories believe that by agreeing to this move, the authorities will show their willingness and political will to build an atmosphere of tolerance and solidarity in the country in the pre-election period together with the opposition.

The two parties call on all political forces to support this initiative.
