Armenian National Congress (HAK) youth activists Sargis Gevorgyan and Davit Kiramijyan’s case continued today at the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts.
Gevorgyan and Kiramijyan were among some 15 people detained on May 31 during clashes between riot police and several dozen HAK supporters. The two young men were attacked by plainclothes police officers and forcibly kept from entering Yerevan’s Freedom Square. Gevorgyan is being accused of resisting a representative of the state, while Kiramijyan is charged with “hooliganism.”
Gevorgyan had been detained for 3 days, while Kiramijyan was in custody for one month; however, both were released on the condition that they don’t flee the country.
Their defense attorney, Melanya Arustamyan, didn’t appear in court today; thus, the court session was postponed till August 26 at 10 am.
