Backed by thousands of activists, the Sardarapat movement directs its demands particularly to the Armenian National Congress, said Sardarapat Movement member Jirair Sefilian, speaking to journalists in Yerevan today.
Sefilian said, first of all, they must refuse calls for political forces to join and unite since, according to him, they are vain and “we must unite the people.”
“We have to be free of this regime not through elections, but based on the potential of people, we have to remove this regime through the compulsion of the people’s will, and a temporary government has to be formed which should not include politicians,” he said.
Sefilian then urged all political parties to put an end to the competition among them and throwing dirt on each other, since “the only one benefitting [from all this] is [Armenian President] Serzh Sargsyan.”
The opposition activist urged opposition groups to debate in a civilized manner: “Instead of gnawing at each other’s throats on Facebook, you can debate in a civilized manner, why not, also in Liberty Square.”
Sefilian also had a beef with the slogan “Levon, president!” chanted by Armenian National Congress (HAK) activists referring to first president of the Republic of Armenia, HAK leader Levon Ter-Petrossian. According to him, for that reason, many people don’t join HAK.
“The next step is that Levon Ter-Petrossian personally invite opposition figures to the stage [i.e. the platform from where he speaks], and say, use me as a tool; together with you all, relying on the people, let’s be free of this regime. If he said this, various [political] forces would come and stand side by side,” he said.
In the Sardarapat movement representative’s opinion, the time has come for youth to speak from the platform, since the people are tired of the usual faces.
If their appeals are unheard, “they will appear in the margins and the time will come when Sardarapat will guide the people,” concluded Sefilian.
