Armenia-Turkey Relations the Result of Wrong Policy: Shahnazaryan

“I think that, under no circumstances, a general decision to go or not go shouldn’t have been made; that’s every individual’s, every organization’s, every party’s business, and those who’ve acted so shouldn’t be judged, neither those who went nor those who didn’t,” said Armenian National Congress (HAK) member Davit Shahnazaryan speaking to Epress.am yesterday, referring to the Sept. 19 Divine Liturgy at Aghtamar’s Holy Cross Armenian Church.

“This is all the result of the Armenian government’s wrong, criminal policy and Armenia-Turkey deepening tension. I’m referring to Football Diplomacy and the signing of the Armenia-Turkey Protocols,” he continued. The HAK representative recalled that at that time, HAK was cautioning that not only are those Protocols not going to work, but also they’re going to strain the situation even more and increase Turkey’s role in the region.

According to Shahnazaryan, one year ago, the pro-government press was writing good things about Armenia but now the country has become its primary enemy, since “the biggest sin in politics took place: the Armenian authorities were deceived.”

“On numerous occasions we cautioned them that you can’t take that criminal step, but they did it [anyway],” said Shahnazaryan.
