Armenian Society Celebrates Valentine’s Day Better Than Independence Day

Independence and Nagorno-Karabakh no longer hold any value for Armenian society: We are no longer the people of 1988, said PR company president Armen Badalyan at a press conference today.

According to him, even if today an Azerbaijani flag were to flutter on Shushi, there would be no public outcry.

“I’m presenting you with official figures: according to Armenia’s Migration Department [the Migration Agency of the Ministry of Territorial Administration], over the last 20 years, one million people have left Armenia; according to Gallup’s latest data, another million plan to leave. It turns out that out of… 3.5 million, one million have left, [and] one million will leave in the coming years. Let me add that after March 1 [2008], the third wave of emigration began in Armenia,” said Badalyan.

“If we have such an picture of emigration, what uprising mass movement are you talking about,” he said.

“It can be considered that Armenia de facto can not exist,” he said.

PR Specialist Karen Kocharyan, also present at today’s press conference, agreed with Badalyan, saying that independence is no longer something of value for Armenian society.

“They celebrate Valentine’s Day better than Independence Day,” he said.
