A Stunning Victory: Armenia Beats Andorra, 4-0

For Armenian fans, it seems it’s become common, celebrating the Armenian national football team’s victories in the streets — without getting tired of shouting “Armenia! Armenia!”

In four days, the perception of Armenian football changed: the national team not only secured two victories in Group B of the Euro 2012 qualifiers, but did so brilliantly.

Armenia began the match against Andorra confidently and already scored two goals by the 16th minute. First goal was scored by Gevorg Ghazaryan at the 5th minute; the second by Henrikh Mkhitaryan at the 16th minute. Note that Ghazaryan’s goal was the 100th goal in the history of the Armenian team.

At the 33rd minute of the first half, Yura Movsisyan, in excellent style, concluded Sargis Hovsepyan’s brilliant pass, and it became apparent that Armenia could obtain another major achievement.

Never in its history has the Armenian team scored 4 goals.

That happened in the beginning of the second half: at the 52nd minute, the Andorra team’s goalkeeper was unable to block a kick from Marcos Pizzelli. After that, the Armenian team relaxed and had no problem winning the match.

The Armenian team’s game was special: the issue is not that Andorra’s team was weak. In the past, even against weak opponents, Armenia’s team played a tough game. It’s just that now Armenia’s national football team left an impression of being a strong team.

Winning two major victories, Armenia’s team strengthened its place among the leaders in Group B, but what’s more important is that the 7 points and 9 goals acquired in 4 matches are not the result of coincidence, but the outcome of a top game.
