Ukrainian Eco-Activists to Support Protests of Their Armenian Colleagues

Armenian activists involved in nature protection call on everybody to join a rally to be held on December 24 against the opening of the dolphinarium in Yerevan’s Komitas Park on that same day. At the moment the activists are preparing a claim and are holding discussions with Yerevan Mayor and Aldermen Council.

According to ecologist Hrayr Savzyan, the dolphins, the sea lion and the seals have already been transported to Armenia. “One of the dolphins has given birth to a calf,” Savzyan said.

He suggests “tearing off ” all the posters and booklets about dolphinarium’s opening which are being affixed and distributed in the city. “Poor animals, they will have to live in these artificial conditions away from the sea. And I am not saying that the animals will be exploited without necessary documents and permission”.

The eco-activists will meet today at 16.30 at «Orhus» centre (Charents 46, at the crossroad of Sayat Nova and Charents) and will decide over their future steps.

Ukrainian eco-activists expressed their readiness to support the Armenian activists’ protest against the opening of the dolphinarium and will probably hold a protest action meeting in Kiev in front of the Ministry of Nature Protection.
