The Armenian prison parole board yesterday sustained a parole claim by Aram Bareghamyan, reports local daily Haykakan Jamanak (“Armenian Times”). Note, opposition members consider Bareghamyan a political prisoner.
The board’s decision today is to be sent to Hrazdan penitentiary where Aram Bareghamyan is currently being held.
“The noted penitentiary, on this basis, must submit a petition to the Kotayk District Court of First Instance’s Hrazdan quarter, after which on the basis of the court’s ruling, Bareghamyan should be released. After the inter-agency [parole] board’s decision, the process of releasing the prisoner on parole usually takes 2–3 days.
“During the Feb. 2008 presidential elections, Bareghamyan was the head of first president of the Republic of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrossian’s campaign headquarters in Hrazdan,” reports the daily.
Recall, Bareghamyan was sentenced to six years in prison and charged under RA Criminal Code Article 316 (“violence against a representative of the authorities”) and Article 112 (“infliction of willful heavy damage to health”).
