Those participating in the Armenian National Congress (HAK) march yesterday returning again to Liberty Square from where the march began. Recall, Apr. 28 was the first time since 2008 that the opposition held a sanctioned rally in the historical square.
After arriving at the square, a group of demonstrators sat on the steps of the opera building and began chanting, “Sit-in!” At this time, Pan-Armenian National Movement (HHSh) chair Aram Manukyan made a speech and said that chess is a serious game, politics is serious business and Armenia is on the betting table.
“We have waited three years, we are asking you to wait a little longer and all the political prisoners will be here, wait a little while, trust us. That our rally today ends with this much here does not mean that there won’t be a rally a week later if need be,” he said trying to appease disappointed demonstrators.
Key HAK organizer Levon Zurabyan also appealed to demonstrators.
“You don’t doubt us, right? There hasn’t been such a thing, a lack of resolve, right? Then, forgive me, but politics is an art of complex calculations; today we made one step and be sure that we have calculated our moves very well, the consequences of this specific move of ours.
“And I assure you one more thing, if the move perhaps was a retreat in your opinion, know that there won’t be a more effective move in the history of our Movement than the step we took today. Trust my remarks today, next time I’m going to come and sit together with you. This time, let’s check the effectiveness of our step.
“So be sure that in one month, such prospects are going to open up in our struggle which you can’t even imagine now,” he said.
