Armenian Airline Armavia Refutes Reports of Supplying Arms to Libya

Armavia air carrier has never had a IL-76 aircraft and only transports passengers and not cargo, said Armavia press secretary Nana Avetisova, commenting on a earlier statement by chief of general staff of Moldova’s national army, General Iurie Dominic, who said that the IL-76 that arrived in Moldova from Libya, with the aim of picking up a regular shipment of arms (and it is presumed to go back), belongs to “an Armenian civil air carrier.”

General Dominic confirmed the fact that where the arms were going was no secret to the air carrier. Citing a Moldovan TV channel’s public report, Interfax reports that Chisinau (Chişinău) sold old, expired weapons to Libya.

On Wednesday, Armenian Department of Civil Aviation press secretary Nelly Cherchinyan told Epress.am that “only [Armenian national air carrier] Armavia can comment on this matter.”  However, Armavia’s press office was not responding to calls yesterday.
