Environmental and civic activists who have been protesting the construction of shops in a central Yerevan park for nearly one-and-a-half months today issued a letter to RA Police Chief Vladimir Gasparyan, informing him that they will be dismantling the kiosks in Mashtots Park themselves on Mar. 31 at 1 pm.
The activists have opted for this move following a ruling by the “fair and independent civic court” at a mock trial in the park on Mar. 17, whereby the court gave Yerevan City Hall 10 days to demolish the nearly completed shops. Activists say they convened a meeting on Mar. 27 and, taking as their basis the court ruling, expressed their willingness to dismantle the shops with their own efforts.
“Thus, we are informing you that at 1 pm on Mar. 13, the illegally constructed pavilions in Mashtots Park are set to be demolished. The demolition work will be carried out by the following individuals: Emil Abrahamyan, Stepan Danielyan, Tigran Khzmalyan, Harutyun Karapetyan, Armen Hovhannisyan, Haygazn Ghahriyan, Andrias Ghukasyan, Karen Shikonyan, Manvel Sarkisyan, and Saro Saroyan,” reads the letter.
Activists also listed the tools they will be using to dismantle the kiosks.
