NGO Demanding PM to Put Armenian Eurasian Economic Union Membership to Referendum

The “Union of Informed Citizen” NGO is demanding Armenian PM Hovik Abrahamyan to put the Armenia’s membership to the Eurasian Economic Union to a referendum.

The NGO emphasized that their application is supported by the Armenian Constitution’s 2nd article (In the Republic of Armenia the power belongs to the people. The people exercise their power through free elections, referenda, as well as through state and local self-governing bodies and public officials as provided by the Constitution), as well as the Armenian law “About Referendums” 4th article, first section and 8.1 article, first and third section, which in accordance to the government can initiate a referendum regarding an important state issue to expose the opinion of society.

In addition, the “Union of Informed Citizens” NGO has sent 15 petitions to Parliamentary faction leaderships and other parliamentarians, to unite on the issue of initiating a referendum.
