Serzh Sargsyan Begins Discussions with Political Parties About Constitutional Reforms

The President of the Republic of the Armenia Serzh Sargsyan has met with representatives of political parties about the process of constitutional reforms, reported the President’s press service today, March 12th.

According to the official statement, today Sargsyan has met with the United Labour Party representatives Gurgen Arsenyan, Hripsime Avetisyan and Vigen Khachatryan.

“During the meeting, a wide range of issues related to the current stage of the constitutional reforms was discussed, as well as issues related to the approval of the concept of the reforms. To date, the President of the Republic has met with the representatives of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation. Meetings with political parties will continue throughout the day,” stated the President’s press service.

Note that Gurgen Arsenyan is a Prosperous Armenia faction MP. The Prosperous Armenia and Armenian National Congress Parties have previously spoken against the initiative of the constitutional reforms.

The initiative of the constitutional reforms is led by President Serzh Sargsyan. The reforms foresee the reduction of the President’s role, while increasing that of the Parliament.
