Two Sasna Tsrer Gunmen Go on Hunger Strike in Solidarity with Jailed Supporter

Two members of the Sasna Tsrer (Daredevils of Sasun) armed group, Ashot Petrosyan and Arayik Khandoyan, have gone on hunger strike in prison in a show of solidarity with Artur Sargsyan, the man who on July 26 drove through the police cordon around the Sasan Tsrer-occupied Yerevan police station to deliver food to the armed group and was recently jailed again on suspicion of aiding the gunmen.

“Petrosyan and Khandoyan are thus expressing their support to Sargsyan and demanding that he be released from detention,” their lawyer, Arayik Papikyan, told Epress.am on Saturday.

According to the lawyer, after going on hunger strike, Khandoyan has been moved to a solitary cell, while Petrosyan shares a cell with other hunger-strikers. The prison administration has yet to respond to Papikyan’s appeal to transfer Petrosyan to a cell with better conditions. Neither of the prisoners, the lawyer added, have any health complaints.
