The Central Board of Armenia’s Social Democrat Hunchakian Party (SDHP) today sent a statement which reads, in part:
“A few days ago in Yerevan, the Social Democrat Hunchakian Party Central Board held its plenary session, in which representatives from different Diasporan communities also participated. Discussed were various issues related to Homeland-Diaspora connections and the party.
“Becoming familiar with the activities carried out after SDHP Armenia’s 7th Congress (December 16, 2009), the Central Board unanimously welcomed the decision to work independently in the political arena. The first real political Armenian political party cannot be attached to any other political party. The Central Board also rejects direct dissident intervention in the party’s internal issues. Therefore, it finds future cooperation with HAK [Armenian National Congress] impossible in Armenia, as well as outside of Armenia.
“The Central Board stresses the current profound incompatibility with the Party’s Plan of the activities initiated by the ruling authorities in settling the Armenian-Turkish and Artsakh [Nagorno-Karabakh] issues, important for SDHP, and the political powers that support that process.”
