Ankara Mayor Melih Gökçek has continued a series of accusations against Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, this time saying that his mother is Armenian, reports Turkey’s Cumhurriyet.
In response, Kılıçdaroğlu said, “It’s not important, my mother can be of Armenian, Turkish or Greek descent.” However, the exchange of accusations didn’t end there. Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan, turning his attention to the Gökçek-Kılıçdaroğlu feud, said that “man’s height is not important, but his roots are important.”
The opposition directed serious criticism toward the country’s prime minister. CHP officially stated that “Erdogan’s words are a reflection of a tendency toward discrimination in his actions.”
