Turkey’s political elite have crammed for the Goebbels lessons very well, which is if you want them to believe your lie, come up with an even more terrible lie. This is how Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) press spokesperson, MP Eduard Sharmazanov responded to Turkish President Abdullah Gul’s statement that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict must be settled within the framework of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.
“Mr. Gul would do better if he read the recent statement by the foreign ministers of co-chair states in which it is indicated that one principle cannot take priority over another,” recalled the MP, adding that the developments and international court’s ruling in Kosovo’s case once again showed that the principle of self-determination is more important for the UN than the principle of territorial integrity.
“If we are guided by Mr. Gul’s logic, then not about 200, but rather 55–56 states should’ve been registered in the UN. I would advise Mr. Gul not to stick his nose in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, because instead of developing and proposing prescriptions, it would be better if he occupied himself with the Cyprus occupation, [and] Kurdish issues and not organize shows on Akhtamar Island,” said Sharmazanov.
