The Azerbaijani film festival would be an event aimed at restoring trust between two societies if such an initiative also took place in Azerbaijan, said Director of the International Secretariat of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaktsutyun Bureau Giro Manoyan, speaking to Epress.am on the festival of Azerbaijani films to be screened in Yerevan later this month.
“In general, bilateral initiatives are always welcoming. If only one side is organizing [the initiative], and, as I see, the event will only take place in Armenia, then in this case there’s an imbalance,” he said.
Recall that the festival is organized by the Caucasus Center for Peace-Making Initiatives NGO, with the support of the US Embassy in Armenia. An event page created on Facebook resulted in a backlash of numerous hateful and nationalist comments (mainly in Armenian). Some Facebook users even threatened festival organizers, calling them traitors to the nation. The festival was supposed to take place from Nov. 2–4, but has since been postponed to an as-of-yet unspecified date.
