YSU Head Failed to Be Elected Academician

Yerevan State University (YSU) Rector, Republican party of Armenia (HHK) member Aram Simonyan wasn’t elected academician of the Division of Armenology and Social Sciences of the National Academy of Science of the Republic of Armenia (NAS RA), reports Haykakan Zhamanak (Armenian Times) newspaper.

Aram Simonyan was among the four nominees together with Babken Harutyunyan, Nikolay Hovhannisyan, Vladimir Ghazakhetsyan. Today, no elections will be held at the NAS RA general meeting. It was rather surprising for many that YSU Rector wasn’t elected academician. Information was circulating that Armenian President, YSU Council Chairman Serzh Sargsyan wanted to get rid of Ara Simonyan and to hold extraordinary elections for the position of YSU Rector, the most probable candidate being his brother Levon Sargsyan.
