Two men of Armenian and Azerbaijani descent were assaulted in separate incidents over the past two days in Moscow.
Last night, a man was shot in the stomach, reports Interfax news agency, citing its sources in law enforcement agencies. ”
“Physicians picked up the victim in Moscow’s eastern sector in a state of intoxication,” said the police, who are currently attempting to identify the man’s legal name.
During their investigation, police were able to confirm that the man is of Azerbaijani descent. The victim has since said that in the middle of the night, an unknown assailant shot him then fled.
Only a few days earlier in the same area of Moscow, an Armenian national had been assaulted. According to the victim, on Jan. 11, a group of unknown assailants attacked him on Izumrudnaya Street.
The 45-year-old Armenian citizen, living temporarily in Moscow, was able to check himself into a nearby hospital, where it became apparent he had a concussion, said police. A decision is being made whether to launch a criminal case at this time or not.
Recall that before the new year festivities, the number of reported attacks on immigrants and those of “non-Slavic” appearance dramatically increased. The first incident of the year took place on Jan. 1, when a 33-year-old Kyrgyzstan national was stabbed and taken to hospital.
