A request by the People’s Party of Armenia to hold a rally on Jan. 15 has been denied, said party leader and ALM Holding LLC President Tigran Karapetyan, speaking to journalists in Yerevan today.
Karapetyan said, regardless, they will hold their rally: on Jan. 16, the party will demonstrate in Hrazdan; on Jan. 15, in Gyumri; and on Jan. 19, in Yerevan.
On the matter of cooperating with other political parties and groups, Karapetyan said their “doors are open to all.” Asked whether it’s possible for Karapetyan to join the opposition bloc Armenian National Congress (HAK), the party leader said:
“Let HAK join us, why should I join HAK?” According to Karapetyan, HAK is already concerned about his rallies, which is why they are holding a rally on Jan. 18.
However, in response to a question by Epress.am, Arman Musinyan, press spokesperson for HAK leader Levon Ter-Petrossian, said the Armenian National Congress is not planning on holding a rally on Jan. 18.
Speaking about Armenia’s government, Karapetyan informed journalists that, for 13 years, Armenian authorities “have done whatever they wanted.”
“After the rally on the 19th we will see you will remain and who won’t. The people are getting tired of these games. That the country is being destroyed is obvious. I don’t want money; I want a normal life for the Armenian people,” he said, adding that the People’s Party will definitely be participating in the 2012 parliamentary elections.
“If the prime minister instructs ministers that plans must be in line with the actions of the [ruling] Republican Party of Armenia and the president, we too must be prepared. What, only the ruling authorities are to use the administration’s resources?” he asked.
