H1 Did Not Violate Armenian Constitution or Laws: H1 Director

And are you a Jehovah’s Witness? asked Alexan Harutyunyan, head of the Council of Armenian Public TV and Radio (that operates H1), in response to a request by Epress.am to comment on a recent lawsuit launched against the television network by Jehovah’s Witnesses in Armenia.

“What does that have to do with anything?” the journalist replied, after which Harutyunyan responded to the original question.

“No offensive statements against Jehovah’s Witnesses were made on the Haylur broadcasts, which simply, referring to one of the websites, presented the criminal case against Arman Torosyan for killing his parents on Nov. 8, 2010, in Sevan,” he said.

In his opinion, there had been no violation of Armenia’s Constitution, and since there is this lawsuit, H1 will secure the necessary documents and evidence to prove that there was no violation of laws.

Recall that Jehovah’s Witnesses of Armenia public relations spokesperson Tigran Harutyunyan, speaking to Epress.am earlier, said the group had launched a lawsuit against H1 “for the offensive and dishonorable statements made about Jehovah’s Witnesses during Haylur and Tesankyun [programs] and we are demanding they issue a public apology.”

Both programs — Haylur and Tesankyun — had reported that Arman Torosyan is a Jehovah’s Witness.

Further, during the Tesankyun broadcast, host Gevorg Altunyan used the expression “a pack of sectarians” and compared Jehovah’s Witnesses to a pack of wolves.
