Turkey Denies Reports of Armenian Nuclear Plant Radiation Leakage

Turkish media have denied reports circulating yesterday that because of a radiation leakage from the Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Armenia’s Armavir marz (province), experts from Çekmece Nuclear Research and Training Center and Erzrum’s Atatürk University began to carry out research to measure radiation levels in Turkey’s eastern and southeastern regions of Iğdır, Agra, Muş , Tunceli and Şırnak.

According to Çekmece Nuclear Research and Training Center specialists, they are, in fact, carrying out research in six provinces; however, this research has no connection to the Metsamor NPP.

Recall, Armenia’s Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources yesterday denied reports of radiation leakage from Metsamor.

“No radiation leakage has been recorded. The NPP is operating as usual; the radiation levels are within the norms,” said the ministry’s press spokesperson, Lusine Harutyunyan.
