Armenian Defense Minister Responds to Report on Assault in Armenia’s Army

Early this week, local media reports, conscript Hovsep Rafik Sargsyan (called to service by the Goris military commissariat) was brutally beaten by Stepanakert resident, Junior Sergeant Harutyun Hrant Gabrielyan in the Nagorno-Karabakh Mataghis defense area.

Sargsyan, receiving serious injuries on his face and body, was taken to the hospital in Stepanakert, reports local Armenian daily Jamanak (“Times”).

Epress.am, calling Armenia’s Ministry of Defense for further information, was told by the ministry’s press spokesperson David Karapetyan  that the article is vaguely worded.

“Where is it written, in Jamanak? They reported a few times that a soldier was killed, but that was wrong information. Confirm [the details] with them, then we’ll talk,” said Karapetyan.
