Yerevan Teachers, Trade Unions Protest School Mergers

Another protest was taking place in front of the Armenian government building today — this time, against the decision to join the No. 18 special school with Pokr Mher (“Small Mher”) educational complex.

“After this merging, students and teachers who have about 20 years of experience are left out,” said head of the N18 school trade union Davit Asatryan, speaking to Epress.am.

According to the educational complex’ charter, said Asatryan, “100% healthy kids” can study there, but “our school has very unhealthy kids.”

“We’ve worked with these kids so much, we’ve brought, educated and disciplined these kids from the street and we’re supposed to resign, throw them on the street, just like that?” said one teacher, Knarik Damakyan, adding unfortunately that after all this, her kids might become beggars.

Note that protestors have submitted an appeal to the government and, according to them, they will go “till the end” in order to reach their aims.
