Inflation in Armenia is Getting Out of Control: Haykakan Jamanak

Inflation in Armenia is getting out of control, reports local Armenian daily Haykakan Jamanak (“Armenian Times”).

According to figures published by Armenia’s National Statistical Service (NSS) yesterday, the consumer price index went up 10.6% Jan. this year as compared to Jan. last year.

“This generally refers to consumer prices. The price of food alone rose 17% as compared to Jan. 2010. Compared to Dec. 2010, consumer prices rose 2.8%. Note that an increase of 1.7% was recorded in Jan. 2010 as compared to Dec. 2009; an increase of 1.2% Jan. 2009 as compared to 2008. For how long is this phenomenon going to continue and how much can the prices go up in Armenia, it’s become difficult to predict,” reports the daily.
