Pakistan Ambassador to Azerbaijan Compares Nagorno-Karabakh to Kashmir

Azerbaijan and Pakistan face similar problems, said Pakistan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Abdul Hamid during a press conference in Baku, according to various Azerbaijani media.

“These problems are the occupation of our territories by other countries, the abuse of human rights and non-fulfillment of UN Security Council resolutions,” Abdul Hamid told a press conference on Friday, reported by APA news agency.

“There are great parallels and similarities between the Kashmir and Nagorno-Karabakh conflicts,” he continued.

Note that Pakistan is the only country in the world which doesn’t recognize the Republic of Armenia. Senior Pakistani officials attribute this to support for Azerbaijan in the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, despite the fact that Azerbaijan itself has recognized the Republic of Armenia.

“Armenia and India are considered the main violators of international law. Therefore, the international community, which talks about human rights and democracy, should pay attention to the plight of refugees from Kashmir and Nagorno-Karabakh, who were forcibly expelled from their lands,” he said.

Kashmir is a disputed territory in the northwestern region of the Indian subcontinent and is a hotbed of tension between India and Pakistan, which, along with China, lay claims on the area.
