Russian defender Vasili Berezutski commented on rumors of a possible match-fixing of the Armenia-Russia Euro 2012 qualifying match.
“How do I perceive the news published in one of the Armenian papers that the Russians are supposedly going to buy the game from the Armenian national team? It’s nonsense! When we were meeting with representatives of the former Soviet Union, someone always tried to heat up the situation before a game. So it was before the game with Azerbaijan, and again with someone else. It seems to me, you shouldn’t pay attention to such rumors; players of the national team more so. All of this is utter nonsense,” he told the publication EuroFootball.
