Criminal Prosecution of Khatchatur Sukiasyan Terminated

Former member of Armenia’s parliament, notorious businessman Khachatur Sukiasyan’s attorneys Ara Zakaryan and Artur Grigoryan have disseminated a statement which states that today they received from the head of the Republic of Armenia’s Special Investigation Service investigation group the Oct. 19, 2010 decision to terminate criminal prosecution of their client.

“With this decision, the criminal prosecution was terminated by Republic of Armenia’s Criminal Procedure Code Article 35 Section 2; that is, because of the inability to prove the defendant’s participation in the committal of the crime,” reads the statement.

Recall, Sukiasyan went into hiding after the events of March 1, 2008. He came out of hiding on Sept. 2, 2009 and voluntarily surrendered to police. Sukiasyan was then charged under RA Criminal Code Article 225 Section 1 (organizing mass riots).

On Sept. 21, he was permitted to fly to Germany for medical treatment, after which he never returned to Armenia.
