“It can be felt that the regime is afraid, is terrified,” said Armenian National Congress (HAK) coordinator Levon Zurabyan, commenting on HAK youth activists being detained by police yesterday.
Recall, nine HAK youth were detained by police yesterday while handing out leaflets informing the public of the upcoming Mar. 1 rally. Further, about 650 of their leaflets were confiscated. The youth were released from police custody just before midnight last night.
“They’re calling all our activists in different regions to police divisions, they’re holding talks, periodic gentle talks, occasional allusions, so they can build up a case against them,” said Zurabyan. According to him, Armenia’s ruling authorities are “terrified” prior to the HAK-organized Mar. 1 rally.
“I’d say their reaction is not that adequate in terms of terror, but, of course, if they were a normal, lawful government that understands how democratic government should work in such cases, they would never use such intimidation tactics. They would understand that such intimidation only incites people more, only strengthen our rally’s momentum,” he said.
