The Faces of March 1 Victims: Grigor Gevorgyan, Samvel Harutyunyan, Zakar Hovhannisyan

Today is the third anniversary of Mar. 1, 2008, when mass protests against alleged electoral fraud, organized by supporters of unsuccessful presidential candidate, first president of the Republic of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrossian, followed the presidential election of Feb. 19, 2008, in Armenia. On Mar. 1, 2008, national police and military forces, called in to disperse the crowds, used “excessive force and violence” which left 10 people dead and many more wounded.

Epress.am today featured a special series on 7 of the victims. The remaining 3 victims are

Grigor Gevorgyan — died at 9:30 pm on Mar. 1 at the Leo-Paronyan intersection from a sniper shot.

Samvel Harutyunyan – fatally wounded on the Mashtots Ave. pedestrian underground passageway, from a shot fired from a Kalashnikov rifle.

Zakar Hovhannisyan – died at 1:30 am on Mar. 2 outside the Mashtots Ave. market, from a shot fired from a Makarov pistol.
