At 10 am on Mar. 3, Yerevan street traders will be protesting outside the government building.
“We still have much to do. We’re going to do everything, rallies, protests, until they accept us normally and speak with us,” street vendors told Epress.am.
It’s been about a month and a half that Yerevan vendors have been protesting the city’s ban on street trade. During numerous protests and demonstrations, they’ve said adequate conditions haven’t been offered to them and, in their opinion, the reason for the ban is to provide Yerevan’ large chain supermarkets with additional customers.
At the Feb. 28 protest outside Yerevan City Hall, in which Heritage Party MPs participated, police — some said violently — kept protestors away from the city hall building entrance. One protestor told Epress.am another protestor broke her leg as a result of police brutality.
“We don’t know anything about that poor woman, we tried to find out about her, with those who trade alongside her, but they too say they haven’t seen her, they don’t know anything. We wanted to talk and say that for sure we will demand compensation in connection with that incident and not to be afraid, but we can’t find her,” said one of the protesting vendors.
