Armenian Parliament Speaker Calls Police Chief Regarding Attack on MPs Today

On Mar. 3, RA National Assembly Chair Hovik Abrahamyan had a phone conversation with RA Police Chief Alik Sargsyan, expressing his concern for the clash between police and Heritage Party MPs who joined Yerevan street traders protesting outside the government building today. The police chief informed Abrahamyan that the details of the incident are being confirmed and will be made available to the National Assembly chair later today, according to a release issued by the National Assembly public and media relations department.

As previously reported by Epress.am, during a protest against the ban on street trade today, police had shoved and cursed not only protestors, but Heritage Party MPs Zaruhi Postanjyan, Anahit Bakhshyan and Armen Martirosyan who were on the scene. During the clash with police, Bakhshyan began to feel unwell and an ambulance was called to take her home. Bakhshyan has since been moved to hospital.

Recall as well that the Heritage Party is boycotting the current four-day session in parliament.
