At around 8 pm yesterday, Armenian National Congress (HAK) representative and Social Democrat Hunchukian Party Chair Lyudmila Sargsyan received a call from Yerevan’s central police division to come in for questioning. This news was conveyed to Epress.am by Lyudmila Sargsyan herself.
Asked why she’s being called in to the station, Sargsyan was told a complaint has been filed against her connected with her party’s activities.
“And I said, if there’s a complaint against the party’s activities, it’s not to you I have to go to, but to the [General] Prosecutor’s Office. I also said you’re making very naive attempts if you think that you can talk to me this way,” the party leader described to Epress.am over the phone.
According to Sargsyan, the police also informed her that they “don’t want to say much over the phone,” to which the party leader responded, “Why are you so afraid of the NSS [National Security Service]?”
The police again insisted that Sargsyan come into the station; however, she refused, noting that she’ll go only after receiving a request in writing.
In Sargsyan’s opinion, all this has to do with her visits to the regions. In her words, the NSS cameras that follow them everywhere, naturally gathered that active meetings are taking place in the regions, “and that’s why they’re afraid.”
“I think what they’re doing is naive. Those people who have been in the struggle for three years are afraid of nothing, are very well aware of their rights, know the struggle’s logic and the impact of their speech. Thus, it’s meaningless to also call to the police [station] and to intimidate one of the leaders,” she said.
