Before Apr. 10, the People’s Party plans on holding a rally in Gyumri and a freedom fighters conference in Yerevan, said People’s Party leader Tigran Karapetyan, speaking to journalists in Yerevan today.
According to him, his party will take such steps that perhaps might be surprising for the public. Asked by a journalist for further details, he said, “I can’t say everything now, but, for example, our women will become more active: women, not armored personnel carriers.”
The Epress.am correspondent asked Karapetyan to elaborate on what he meant by armored personnel carriers.
“Those women who come to our rallies distribute leaflets [referring to HAK supporters]. I call them armored personnel carriers, but I can also give another definition, if you really want: [Armenian National Congress leader] Levon Ter-Petrossian’s witnesses,” he said.
The party leader continued to talk about the Armenian National Congress (HAK), saying that after the Mar. 17 rally, demonstrators saw that fundamental questions aren’t being put and negotiation issues are arising.
“There’s nothing fundamental; there’s no approach. They say, ‘hotheads, relax, we’re playing chess’,” he said, rather inexplicably.
Karapetyan also noted that he heard calls among HAK demonstrators to spend the night at Liberty Square and his journalists noticed that many female opposition supporters had come to the HAK rally with blankets.
Addressing journalists, Karapetyan explained, “You probably came late, you didn’t see,” though those gathered didn’t pose any questions on the matter.
During the press conference, the People’s Party leader also insisted that the reason European delegates meet with (Armenian President) Serzh Sargsyan and Levon Ter-Petrossian and not with him is because he is not “in business” with them.
