During a search of the home of an Armenian couple in Bordeaux Caudéran (a residential quarter in the wine city of Bordeaux), French police discovered an “Ali Baba cave,” reports the Journal Sud Ouest.
Expensive wines (bottles of Château Mouton-Rothschild), computer equipment, brand-name clothing and shoes, worth several thousand euros, were found pell-mell in the home.
The couple are both fully settled: the husband, 47, is a hair stylist, while his wife, 42, does housework. Both have worked as expert translators in the city’s appeals court. Police officers and prosecutors have even often used their services, in some cases for transcribing wiretapped audio recordings.
While detained, the couple and their son have denied everything: they say they bought the clothing and shoes at the Place Saint-Michel market. The bottles of wine were acquired in an exchange on an online sales site.
In all likelihood, reports le Journal Sud Ouest, they have been pressured by members of an organization akin to the mafia.
The couple and their son, though still under judicial control, were recently released. Investigators are currently trying to identify the owners of the seized merchandise.
